“When I came to work this morning, I wasn’t a grandma and now I am.”
That’s what Sharon Bloomingdale boasted to her coworkers after receiving the best in-office surprise ever.
Bloomingdale’s daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Josh Dell, were only approved for adoption three weeks before matching up with their new baby, Ellie. They kept the news under wraps, deciding to surprise Bloomingdale with a meet-and-greet at her Ohio workplace.
First, Laura handed her mother a onesie. Then, her husband carried in the car seat, holding their four-month-old baby and all.
The Dells recorded Bloomingdale’s teary reaction. What makes this family’s expansion even sweeter? Bloomingdale was adopted herself.
“It’ll be great for Ellie to see the video when she grows up and know that grandma loved her even before she got to know her,” Laura told the Huffington Post.
She adds that they were reluctant to share the video, but ultimately decided it sent an important message.
“We love adoption and there are so many kids out there that need a home. [November] is National Adoption Month, so we decided this would be a way to show people how beautiful adoption is,” she said.
