Fun Facts About April Birthday Babies
April babies are lucky to celebrate their birthdays surrounded by the excitement and hopefulness of spring. It’s a delightful time of year for a birthday—and parents of April babies agree. Kristin Revere, CED, a certified birth, postpartum and infant care doula and the founder of Gold Coast Doulas in Grand Rapids, Michigan, says her April birthday clients appreciate their due dates because of the abundant sunshine and pleasant weather. “Spring is such a hopeful time. Flowers are blooming, and new life is everywhere,” she says.
April birthdays have the advantage of great timing. For one thing, you’re no longer at the peak of getting-sick season. There are other perks too: “It’s a fine enough distance from Christmas, and I could always celebrate my birthday while at school, so April works perfectly!” says Heids4787, a community member on The Bump who’s both an April baby and a mom to an April baby. Below, we dive into some fun facts about April birthdays and babies, including the April birthstone, April Zodiac signs and more.
The April Zodiac signs are Aries and Taurus—the ram and the bull. Does your April birthday baby have an Arien’s courageousness or a Taurean’s groundedness? Read on to decide for yourself.
Aries
Children born between March 21 and April 20 are Aries babies. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, Ariens—symbolized by a ram—are thought to be courageous, independent and up for a challenge. “Overall, an Aries needs independence, firm boundaries and freedom to run with their ideas—as well as plenty of time to get their wiggles out,” says Melissa Perry, an astrologer and owner of Momstrologer. “Ariens are notorious for needing extra physical activity to manage their explosive energy—so it can transform into amazing feats of toddlerhood instead of uncontrollable tantrums.”
Taurus
Children born between April 21 and May 20 are Taurus babies. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, Taureans— represented by a bull—are known for their loyalty, practicality and love of predictability. “Taurus kids need consistent schedules and creative projects to ground their earthy energy,” says Perry. “And since they’re senses-forward kids, sometimes all they need is a comfy blanket and their favorite stuffie to feel perfectly at home.”
According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the primary April birth flower is the daisy, and its secondary birth flower is the sweet pea. Daisies are iconic spring flowers that represent innocence and purity. The most classic type of daisy has white petals and a yellow center, but daisies come in many colors and varieties. Sweet peas are climbing flowers with pea-pod-like petals. They symbolize pleasure and kindness.
The April birthstone is perhaps the most coveted of them all: the diamond. According to the Gemological Institute of America, the sparkling April birthstone symbolizes clarity and strength—its name originating from the Greek word “adamas,” which means “invincible” or “unbreakable.” Diamonds are a common symbol of love and marriage, and they’re thought to bring longevity, strength, beauty and happiness to the wearer.
According to an analysis of births in the US from 1994 to 2014, April is the second least common birthday month, with 10,874 average daily births. The most popular April birthday is April 4, with 11,264 average daily births, and the least popular April birthday is April 1, with 10,335.

Studies suggest that being born in April may affect disease risk, sleep patterns and possibly even career outcomes. Read on for more details about April birthdays, ahead.
April birthday babies may be destined to become CEOs
Well, kind of. A 2012 study compared the birth dates of 375 CEOs and found that the largest number of them were born in March and April, while the fewest were born in June and July. The researchers hypothesized that the “relative age effect,” or the idea that the oldest kids in their class may have an advantage in school and beyond, explained this phenomenon. However, it should be noted that the study used a small, selective sample size and didn’t necessarily control for all relevant factors.
April-borns might be night owls
According to a 2009 study surveying 5,720 European university students, people born in spring and summer tend to go to bed slightly later and reach their sleep midpoint later than those born in fall and winter. Scientists hypothesize that differing levels of prenatal sunlight exposure could explain these patterns. However, it’s important to add that the variation by birth season is small—at most an 18-minute difference in sleep onset timing.
People born in April are at a lower risk of certain diseases
A 2015 study analyzing decades of health records found that birth month may impact lifetime disease risk. In the study, babies born in April showed a lower risk for certain neurological and respiratory conditions. Researchers believe that seasonal environmental factors, like prenatal vitamin D exposure levels, may explain these differing health outcomes.
April birthday celebrations are sure to be packed with fun and excitement. “April birthdays are all about sunshine, play and celebrating the season!” says Olivia Pollock, etiquette and hosting expert at Evite.
The energy and bright colors of spring create a charming backdrop for an April birthday party that’s sure to delight. It’s the perfect time of year for an outdoor celebration, and activities like scavenger hunts or hula hoop contests can take the fun to the next level. “From sweet tea parties to sporty golf themes, these ideas make spring birthdays feel whimsical and bright,” says Pollock.
However you celebrate, April kiddos are sure to bring “fresh, vibrant and fiery energy to your family. You can count on their independent streak to keep Mom and Dad on their toes,” says Perry. Parents of April babies, soak up the sunny early days and get ready for exciting times to come!
