Surayya

Directly inspired by our solar system, Surayya is a feminine name of Arabic origin, meaning “star.” A variant of Thurayya, an Arabic ode to the Pleiades constellation, Surayya comes steeped in other-worldly wonder and brings to earth a beautiful creation beyond reach. In Islamic belief, the prophet Muhammad is said to have foreseen reigning futures for his descendants in the Pleiades, counting the number of kings to come according to the formation of the stars. Just as the Pleiades rise to greet their onlookers with good fortune, so might little Surayya be a grace to those who gaze upon them.
