Xavier

Xavier is a masculine name of Basque origins. Stemming from the place name Etxeberria, Xavier means "the new house," a fitting description of how your home might feel with the addition of your tiny tot, and a lot of new baby gear! It's also deeply linked to Saint Francis Xavier, a Jesuit missionary who lived during the 16th Century. Though it may take a little time to adjust to life with your new arrival, it will soon feel like they've always been here! If you’re a proud Marvel comic book fan, this moniker may remind you of Charles Xavier, or Professor X, as he is also known.

Though the X in Xavier is often silent, the name can be pronounced in several different ways, as some members of The Bump community explain. One user, Fall2009Mom, says, "I went to Xavier University for undergrad. We always pronounced it Zavier." Another user, soccerwife, prefers to pronounce Xavier's first letter, "I would say 'Ex-aviar.' I knew an Xavier, and everyone called him X-Man." However you choose to say their name, your Xavier will feel x-static every time they hear it.
