Sprout Organics Recalls Sweet Potato, Apple and Spinach Pouches
When you’re on the go with a baby or toddler, snack pouches can quickly become your best friend. But when these easy grab-and-go additions include some extra unwanted additions of their own, it’s a cause for concern.
Sprout Organics, the makers of the popular puree pouches sold online and in places like Walgreens, announced the recall of certain lots of its Sweet Potato, Apple and Spinach pouches earlier this month. Now, the brand is expanding the recall to more pouches after routine sampling of the pouches found elevated lead levels in some of their pouches. While the lead levels detected are unlikely to cause any serious harm, previous studies have shown that extended or elevated lead exposure can be particularly harmful to infants and young children, potentially leading to developmental delays and neurological damage.
The expanded recall includes Sprout Organics Sweet Potato, Apple and Spinach pouches sold online and in Walgreens and independent retailers in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming. It was not sold in any other large retail chain besides Walgreens. The following expiration dates and lot codes are included in the recall:
- Best By Oct292025, Lot Code 4212
- Best By Oct302025, Lot Code 4213
- Best By Dec042025, Lot Code 4282
- Best By Feb042026, Lot Code 4310
Walgreens has removed the affected products from store shelves and is offering full refunds for any recalled pouches. IIf your child has consumed a recalled pouch and you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to check in with your pediatrician.
