Tired of Hearing 'Mom' on Repeat? This Hack Might Save Your Sanity
By the time your toddler is up and running with endless discoveries to share, the “Mom, Mom, Mom!” chorus is in full swing. Whether they’re desperate for your attention, eager for you to admire every block tower, or simply love repeating the word on loop, the constant calls can wear down even the most patient parent. The good news? There’s hope in the form of a little fun and creative redirection.
Mom of two and content creator Shannele of @reelmomstuff recently shared her favorite hack for when you need a break from hearing “Mom.” “Instead of losing your mind because your kids are saying Mom too much, just change your name,” she wrote alongside a video of her trying out the trick.
In the clip, she tells her two boys that “Mom” has been said one too many times—so for the next 10 minutes, she’ll be going by Tammy. Her little ones quickly get on board, and soon Shannele is tossing out even sillier options, from Cash Money Records to Lizzie McGuire. “My favorite hack. The sillier the name the better. Enjoy the name break,” she captioned. “Results may vary.”
Parents in the comments loved the idea and chimed in with their own twists. “Have them call you Big Papa,” joked one. Another recalled, “Our mom told us she changed her name to Daddy. When we’d call for her, she’d tell our dad we wanted him.” One parent laughed, “After 4pm I just respond ‘Non parla inglese’ to my 4-year-old and he screams back ‘WHO IS PARLA?’” Not every attempt goes smoothly though—one mom admitted, “I tried this and my 5-year-old started tearing up and said, ‘No, I want to call you Mommy.’”
Whether you’re going by Mom, Big Papa, or Jason Derulo, remember that this wild “Mom chorus” is just a phase and one day, you might even miss the sound.
