Fun Facts About November Birthday Babies
November is a month of peak coziness and pre-holiday hustle and bustle—which makes it the perfect backdrop for a birthday celebration. “November brings crisp mornings; earlier sunsets; and gatherings that lean into warmth, gratitude and cozy connections,” says Olivia Pollock, etiquette and hosting expert at Evite.
Those November babies you might be celebrating—Scorpios and Sagittarians—are a bold bunch, according to the stars. Becky F., mom of two in New York, describes her November-born daughter as strong-willed and independent, but also “incredibly caring, loyal, insightful and a wonderful friend—a true Scorpio.”
Science says being born in November could contribute to other unique tendencies too—like an increased likelihood of left-handedness, at least in males. Read on for more November birthday fun facts and ideas for celebrating November birthdays.
The November Zodiac signs are Scorpio and Sagittarius—the scorpion and the archer. Does your November baby have a Scorpio’s intensity or a Sagittarian’s playfulness? Read on to decide.
Scorpio
Babies born between October 23 and November 21 are Scorpios. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, Scorpios, which are represented by a scorpion, are thought to be passionate, loyal and determined. “They want to understand how things work, why people act the way they do and what’s really going on beneath the surface. They can also be surprisingly tuned in to how you’re feeling,” says Danielle Rothschild, an astrologer and owner of Little Mystic School, an astrology resource for parents. Meg R., a mom of one in Chicago, says her Scorpio son is super smart and intuitive, even as a toddler: “Somehow, he has a better sense of direction than I do!”
Sagittarius
Babies born between November 22 and December 21 are Sagittarians. The Old Farmer’s Almanac says Sagittarians, symbolized by an archer or an arrow, are known for their adventurousness, curiosity and playfulness. “These are the kids pulling pots and pans out of the cabinets, trying to climb the bookshelf or laughing as they figure out how to wriggle out of the playpen before you’re ready,” says Rothschild. “They love to move and explore, and as they grow up, they’ll be the ones asking, ‘Why?’ about everything they see.” Schaelaur K., mom of one in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, says her Sagittarius son is “the most friendly and happy boy, fist-bumping other parents and kids at the library with a silly face before running off to explore.”
The November birth flowers are lush and vibrant, perfect for your November birthday baby. According to Gardenia, a gardening resource, November’s primary birth flower is the chrysanthemum, and its secondary birth flower is the peony. Chrysanthemums are many-layered flowers that come in a variety of warm colors. They symbolize longevity and happiness. Peonies are iconic, fluffy blooms that come in a variety of whites, pinks and reds. They represent romance and prosperity.
November has two birthstones: topaz and citrine, according to the Gemological Institute of America. Topaz comes in many colors, including yellow, orange, pink, blue and more. In India, people have long believed that wearing topaz above your heart can bring longevity, beauty and intelligence. Citrine is a truly autumnal gemstone—a transparent variety of quartz that dazzles in yellow and orange-brown hues. It has historically been thought to have soothing and temper-reducing qualities.
According to an analysis of births in the US from 1994 to 2014, November is the 10th most common birthday month, with 10,927 average daily births. The most popular birthday in November is November 21, with 11,625 average daily births, and the least popular birthday in November is November 27, with 9,770 average daily births.

Studies have shown that November-born babies have unique birth month-related tendencies and perks. For starters, research suggests that November babies tend to be more cardiovascularly fit than their peers. Read on to find out more.
November-born males are more likely to be left-handed
According to a 2014 study analyzing data from over 12,000 Europeans, males born between November and January are more likely to be left-handed than those born in other months. Notably, this difference wasn’t found in females. There are a few reasons for this: First, males are more prone to left-handedness at baseline thanks to higher prenatal exposure to testosterone. Researchers believe males born between November and January have even higher odds due to being exposed to more sunlight at the exact right stage in utero, which may further boost testosterone production.
Children born in November may have a fitness advantage
A 2014 study on physical performance by birth month found that November-born children showed superior cardiovascular fitness and jumping abilities compared to their classmates, even when height, weight and BMI were similar across birth months. This suggests that November-borns are potentially more physically capable despite not always being the oldest or most physically developed in their class. Scientists believe this means that these advantages are independent of relative age and that other factors, like prenatal vitamin D exposure, may play a role.
November is a top month for US presidential birthdays
November is tied with October as the most common birth month for US presidents. The six presidents with November birthdays are:
- Zachary Taylor (November 24, 1784)
- James K. Polk (November 2, 1795)
- Franklin Pierce (November 23, 1804)
- James A. Garfield (November 19, 1831)
- Warren G. Harding (November 2, 1865)
- Joe Biden (November 20, 1942)
It can be tricky to fit in a birthday party around November holiday celebrations, but the cool temperatures and warm autumnal vibes set the stage for a fantastic time. “While November’s famous for turkey dinners and autumn leaves… it’s all about warmth and connection,” says Pollock.
Schaelaur K. says she’s planning a Bluey-themed birthday for her November baby this year because of a surprising tie-in: “Bluey’s birthday is December 4—which was actually my son’s due date!—and Bingo’s is November 11, so I think a Bluey-and-Bingo themed birthday for our November babies is perfect,” she says. “I’d also love to do an apple orchard party one year—take him and a few toddler friends to pick apples, ride the wagon, drink apple cider—just all the fun fall things!”
November birthday babies get to enjoy festive, late-fall vibes for their celebrations, and their parents get to soak in their bright personalities. Enjoy those cool-weather cuddles—and look forward to watching your bold bundle of joy leap through life with determination and curiosity.
