Peel-and-stick wallpaper is far easier to use than classic wallpaper. But it still takes a little skill to achieve a seamless result. Keep reading to learn our top tips on how to to decorate a nursery with removable wallpaper and decals.
Measure the space. This is arguably the most important step in redesigning your nursery. Before you begin, measure the wall’s height and width with a measuring tape. If you’re opting for wallpaper, these measurements will help you determine how many rolls are needed. For wall decals and murals measure the area that you would like to cover to work out the desired dimensions of each piece.
Buy a sample. You wouldn’t paint without trying out a tester pot of the color first would you? The same rules apply to wallpaper. Purchase a sample sheet to ensure it’s exactly what you’re looking for before investing in multiple rolls.
Prepare the walls. Read the product instructions and prepare the walls accordingly. Typically, you’ll need to clean the walls with a damp cloth and remove socket covers.
Make a guide for your first piece. Measure the width of the wallpaper; using a pencil, mark this measurement onto the wall. Use this mark as a starting point and draw a straight vertical line. This guide will help you apply the first strip of wallpaper in a straight line. For nursery decals, work out the center point of the area you would like to cover and use this as an application guide.
Apply the wallpaper section by section. Take a strip and peel off a few inches of the adhesive backing. Starting at the top, slowly press the paper onto the wall peeling off the back as you go.
Smooth out air bubbles and cut off excess paper. Use a smoothing tool to gently remove air bubbles and trim excess paper with a utility knife or scissors.
Style it out. Going for a bold print? Select one color or motif featured in your wallpaper of choice and use it to inform soft furnishings and furniture—that way the room will look pulled together. Alternatively, use accessories to add a pop of color to monochromatic spaces.
Decor is always a matter of personal taste—if you love it, go for it! That said, it can be helpful to peruse different designs before you commit to one. From abstract prints to whimsical woodland scenes, here you’ll find nursery wallpaper to inspire your interiors.
