Why Jool Baby Is Recalling Its Nova Baby Swings

Why is Jool Baby recalling its Nova Baby Swings?

Jool Baby is recalling its Nova Swing in accordance with the CPSC’s Safe Sleep Act. The legislation, which was signed into law in May 2022, bans the sale, manufacture or distribution of inclined sleepers and crib bumpers for babies. Jool Baby’s Nova Swing violates the act’s stipulation that all baby swings or rockers marketed for or intended for sleep must have less than a 10-degree incline. Rockers or inclined sleepers with a greater incline than 10 degrees can pose a significant suffocation risk to baby.

The brand emphasizes that there have been no reported accidents or incidents with the Nova Swing and that the brand is simply updating the Nova Swing to “better communicate that the product is not intended for sleep” by adding warning labels and clear instructions for use. The CPSC reiterates that if baby falls asleep while in an inclined swing or rocker, parents should remove baby and place them on a firm, flat surface free of obstructions for sleep.

How do I know if my product is affected by the recall?

Recalled Nova Swings were sold on the Jool Baby, Amazon, Babylist, Walmart and Target websites. Recalled items were manufactured between June 2022 through September 2023. You can find the manufacturing date on the sewn-in warning label on the back of the seat.

What should I do if my product is recalled?

The good news is parents won’t have to throw away their recalled Nova Swings. After registering your swing on Jool Baby’s recall page, the brand will send out free replacement kits to parents, including new written instructions, updated on-product warnings, new hanging plush toys with non-sleep themes (sun, cloud, rain drop) and a new remote control.
