If you’ve ever frantically done the math to calculate wake windows on the back of a receipt while juggling a stroller snack, you know naps don’t just shape baby’s day. They shape yours. One off-timed nap and suddenly the grocery run, the happy hour with friends or just the cup of coffee you promised yourself can feel out of reach.

That’s where Nanit NextNap comes in. The groundbreaking new feature lives inside the Nanit app and automatically predicts when your baby will be ready to sleep again, using data captured from the parent-loved Nanit Pro Baby Monitor rather than manual guesswork. Integrated seamlessly into the Nanit app, NextNap is a data and AI-enabled feature designed to take wake window tracking and nap timing off your mental to-do list.

How NextNap Works In Real Life

  • It uses what really happened, not guesses. Unlike any other nap tracker, Nanit’s camera doesn’t just log when baby is put down, but when they actually fall asleep. “The critical trigger is how much time they actually slept,” Nanit CEO Anushka Salinas told The Bump in an exclusive interview. “We’ve heard from parents who have tried NextNap so far that this automatic capture is where the real magic is.”
  • It adapts as the day unfolds. NextNap’s self-learning AI adjusts to changes in schedule and can even account for naps taken outside the crib—making recalculations in seconds. “Let’s say your child normally wakes up at seven, perfect world, I know, but today they woke up at five,” Salinas said. “NextNap factors that in and may suggest an earlier nap or might even recommend, maybe three naps today is appropriate, or two if you normally take one.”
  • It keeps everyone on the same page. A simple timer in the Nanit app counts down to the next nap time and automatically updates across caregivers, which makes handoffs easier and plans more predictable. “If I put the baby down for a nap and maybe head out to get my nails done, my husband can just pick things up from there. All the information is synced and easily available. It’s all about making it super seamless,” Salinas added.
  • It’s grounded in sleep science. Nanit’s clinical research team helped shape the schedules and guardrails NextNap’s predictions rely on. So you can rest assured that, whatever your child’s age, their schedule has been expertly crafted to fit their needs.

Despite the benefits NextNap offers, Salinas knows some parents may feel hesitant about bringing technology and AI into the nursery. Security is one of the biggest questions, and she stresses that Nanit treats it with the utmost seriousness, citing “bank-level security” that includes 256-bit encryption, secure network connections and multi-factor authentication to keep both video feeds and data protected.

Just as with other health apps and wearables, some parents worry that more tracking and data could add to their stress. Salinas acknowledges it is ultimately a family-by-family decision, but she believes most parents find reassurance in having information they can act on. For her, Nanit’s insights about her younger son’s sleep position helped her catch potential issues early and address them with simple changes like tummy time. “In my experience the most anxiety you have as a parent is when you’re worried that something’s wrong,” she said. “Having Nanit there gave me the information I needed to act and feel confident I was supporting him.”

Salinas’ ultimate hope is that parents use all the information that Nanit provides as a tool alongside their intuition to make informed choices. “We are not advice givers. That’s not what we do. We are a science and data-backed platform,” she added. “I think it is all about empowering parents with information that they can then make the best decision for their family.”

And hey, if having this information can help parents reclaim some schedule normalcy and a greater sense of independence, that’s the cherry on top. “Becoming a parent is a real transition,” Salinas said. “You go from full freedom to do what you want, when you want, to suddenly having a dependent. Nanit is here to help parents through that shift, so they can still do what they need to do, stay connected while away and manage the anxiety that comes with it.”

NextNap is included in the Nanit app for Milestones and Memories Plan subscribers. To get started, make sure your app is updated, head to the Activity tab and tap the NextNap banner to enter your baby’s details (bedtime, wake time and number of naps). From there, you can set notifications and begin receiving personalized nap predictions. Learn more at Nanit.com
