In a nutshell:

Based on extensive market research and survey feedback from 350 new and expectant parents, we selected Kindred Bravely as the overall best nursing clothing brand as moms love the super-soft fabric and comfortable fit of Kindred Bravely designs.

In this article:

Made the decision to breastfeed baby? Fantastic! Nursing can be a wonderful way to bond with baby, but it’s not always the easiest experience. Set yourself up for success with the right gear—we’re talking a nursing cover-up, a supportive pillow, breast pads, nipple cream and, most importantly, nursing clothes.

Newborns feed over 12 times per day, and when baby’s hungry there’s no time to waste. Nursing-friendly clothes give you easy access to your breasts, so you can feed them in a flash and avoid a “hangry” baby. If you’re returning to work or plan to express milk and bottle-feed baby, nursing shirts and dresses also make it easier to use a breast pump on the go. Adaptive features like clip-down straps, side zips, hidden panels and layers that you can simply pull aside mean you can reach your breast without having to undress or bare some skin. (Although it’s important to note that you do have the legal right to breastfeed in public.) Aside from being practical, the best nursing clothes are stylish and comfortable, so that you can go about your day while still feeling like your best self.

How We Chose the Best Nursing Clothes

Between finding a comfortable position, shedding the necessary layers and getting a proper latch, nursing your child can be tricky at times. Fortunately, clothing with easy nursing access can take the stress out of feeding in public or at home. To help you find the best nursing-friendly clothing, we did the bulk of the research. This way, you won’t have to spend hours scrolling. Here are the steps we took to create this roundup:

  • We surveyed almost 350 members of The Bump community about the nursing clothes they used. We then asked parents to rate brands based on their firsthand experience.
  • Based on survey feedback, we considered the following criteria when selecting the best nursing clothes brands: comfort, ease of use, discreet nursing access, affordability, style and fit, durability and more.
  • We leveraged our familiarity with leading maternity and postpartum fashion brands and relied on our own experiences as nursing parents.
  • We conducted exhaustive market research, scouring external forums and message boards and reading user reviews to find out what parents across the country looked for when buying nursing clothes.

Editorial integrity is at the heart of everything we publish. Read about how The Bump develops and reviews all articles, including product reviews.
