In a nutshell:
Based on hands-on product testing, we chose the Halo Wearable Blanket SuperSoft Bamboo as the overall best toddler sleep sack. This wearable blanket stood out for its ease of use, soft fabric, high-quality zippers and room to grow—while keeping toddlers comfortably warm without causing overheating.

Getting your toddler to go to sleep can be a challenge, to say the least. But when bedtime rolls around, one thing’s for sure: You’ll want your little one to be comfy, cozy, and sleep-safe—whether they’re in your bed or their own. Enter: toddler sleep sacks. These wearable blankets are just as cozy as their infant counterparts but are specifically designed with tots in mind.

“Just because toddlers are technically able to sleep with a blanket at 12 months old, it doesn’t mean that they’re ready to do so,” says Jillian Thistel, a certified pediatric sleep consultant and founder of Twinkling Stars Pediatric Sleep Consulting in Ontario, Canada. That’s why toddler sleep sacks remain a smart—and safe—choice well into the toddler years.

As a mom of two boys, including a 22-month-old who loves a snuggly toddler sleep sack, I know firsthand how important it is to find one that checks all the right boxes. I personally tested five popular sleep sacks with my toddler at naptime and bedtime, while my colleague Korin Milller tested additional options with her child. Together, we put top-rated toddler sleep sacks through real-life use to see how they held up. Check out our favorites—from quilted and winter-ready styles to lightweight, transitional designs—as well as expert-backed advice to help ensure your little one is safe and snug as they snooze.

How We Tested and Chose the Best Toddler Sleep Sacks

Image: Christine C.

The Bump editors conducted extensive research to identify 15 top-rated toddler sleep sacks on the market, and from there, we did the following:

  • I tested five sleep sacks with my 22-month-old son, and ten additional sleep sacks were tested independently by my colleague Korin and her one-year-old daughter. Each sleep sack was used for two full nights and naps to assess comfort, durability, and fit. We also washed and dried each sack three times according to the manufacturer’s instructions to evaluate how well they held up to regular use.
  • Each sleep sack was rated on a scale of 1 to 10 across key categories, including ease of use, quality of fasteners, ease of diaper changes, fit, material, temperature control, washing and drying, design and style, and overall value for money. These scores helped us determine which options offer the best combination of comfort, functionality, and durability for toddlers and their caregivers.
  • We consulted with a certified pediatric sleep consultant, as well as safe sleep guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) on what to look for in toddler sleep sacks, as well as important elements to consider.
  • To understand how these toddler sleep sacks have worked for families, we conducted exhaustive market research, analyzing feedback on forums and reading user reviews to see how well these sleep sacks worked for parents and their toddlers across the country.

Editorial integrity is at the heart of everything we publish. Read more about how The Bump develops our product reviews.

The Best Toddler Sleep Sacks

Overall best toddler sleep sack

What We Love
  • Incredibly soft bamboo material
  • Provides warmth without overheating
  • Two-way zipper
Things To Consider
  • Mixed reviews on staining easily

After testing several sleep sacks with my 22-month-old son, I can confidently say that the Halo Wearable Blanket stands out for its exceptional performance across all areas. I particularly loved how easy it was to use—putting this sleep suit on my wriggly toddler was a breeze. One central two-way zipper runs almost the entire length of the sleep sack, and it glides effortlessly and quietly, making diaper changes a breeze without disturbing my son’s sleep.

A fabric tab covers the zipper in the same ultra-soft bamboo fabric as the garment, so that it doesn't irritate your child's neck, and the sleep sack is easy to open and lift up to change diapers. However, since my 22-month old just started using the potty, it would be a little cumbersome to leave on during potty breaks. On the plus side, I’m confident that with a bit of practice, my toddler will soon be able to zip it up on his own.

Image: Christine C.

The breathable bamboo fabric is another major highlight, earning this toddler sleep sack a 10 out of 10 score for materials. The bamboo viscose feels buttery soft and I love how gentle it is against my son's skin. On top of being incredibly comfortable, the fabric is durable. Even after several wash cycles, the sleep sack hasn’t shrunk, pilled or lost its luxurious feel. And bamboo is breathable enough for a wide temperature range, keeping my son perfectly comfortable all night long. With that said, the 1.5 TOG rating is ideal for cooler months, offering the right amount of warmth without overheating.

This sleep sack, while slightly oversized, was still a great fit for my 22-month old. I chose the 18-24 month size for him (designed for kids that weigh between 26 and 36 pounds) and it fit him well. There was excess material at the bottom, but it wasn't as much as other sleep sacks that we tried. This left room for growth, but not excessively. The sleep sack fully encases your child’s lower body, which some parents prefer as it can help reduce the risk of crib climbing. Due to the footless design, oversized fit and slippery fabric, walking was a challenge, but my son was still able to stand up in his crib. All in all I was happy with the fit, awarding it a 10 out of 10 score.

At under $40, the Halo Wearable Blanket offers exceptional quality and comfort that far exceeded my expectations. With its soft, breathable fabric, user-friendly design, and lasting durability, it’s my top pick for parents looking for a toddler sleep sack.

Size range: S-XL | Material: 100% bamboo-viscose shell/100% polyester filling | TOG rating: 1.5 TOG | Care instructions: Machine wash cold with like colors on a gentle cycle.

Our product tester says: “I would recommend this sleep sack to other parents. It is appropriate for most seasons, meaning the value is there, and the quality of the material is beautiful and ultra-soft. It is the ultimate in comfort and functionality, and my son slept really well in it, so I can definitely see it being a great option for so many other families as well.”

Our community says:

Halo makes a regular sleep sack (no footholes) in extra large which should fit with some space. My son is almost 15 months and over 34 inches and he has a little room to spare in the extra large. - eyenigh, The Bump forum member

Halo fan for life. - ally2011, The Bump forum member

We use large and extra large Halo sleep sacks. I would get extra large for the future. The zippers have held up and she has been wearing the large size for about 6 months. - brachysira, The Bump forum member

Best toddler sleep sack with feet

Tealbee Dreamsuit Toddler Sleep Sack with Feet
Image: Amazon
What We Love
  • Excellent mobility for before bedtime play
  • True to size with room to grow
  • Soft quilted material
Things To Consider
  • Mixed reviews on zipper quality
  • Warm for summer wear

Looking for a toddler sleep sacks with feet? The Tealbee Dreamsuit is a wearable blanket with legs that offers your child full mobility at bedtime. I tested it with my 22-month-old son, and my colleague Korin also used it with her daughter. The result? We both liked the fact that our kids could comfortably walk around in the sleep suit without falling over their own feet.

The Tealbee Dreamsuit was incredibly simple to put on my little guy, earning it a perfect score for ease of use. The leg openings are roomy enough where they were simple to slide on my wiggly toddler and the arm openings were easy to slip over his shoulders. I was able to put this sleepsack on my son while he was sleepy and I think in due time, he would be able to do this himself. Korin agreed with my assessment and also noted that “the zipper runs the full length of the bodice making it easy to zip up and down.” The two-way YKK zipper is smooth, quiet, and incredibly convenient for diaper changes, with a protective tab at the neck to prevent irritation.

Image: Christine C.

The fit of the Dreamsuit is fantastic. I love that it is a little oversized (I got a 2T-3T and my son is primarily in 3T), making it super comfortable for my little guy. There were no gaps in the arms or leg holes and I like that the leg holes had a cuff for a tighter fit around the ankles, but not too tight. This is definitely something my baby could grow in—it is a little large for him, but not so large that it would pose any discomfort. There was plenty of room for his full morning diaper and while there's some excess material at the crotch of the sleep sack, my son could still comfortably walk around without tripping. Korin was equally impressed and said: “It fit my daughter well, and left plenty of room in the legs and gusset for her to grow into, without feeling like she would trip over it.”

In terms of material, the quilted bamboo-cotton blend felt incredibly soft, resulting in yet another 10 out of 10 score. It held up beautifully in the wash without shrinking or pilling. Both of us noted how plush and cozy the fabric felt—Korin compared it to a beloved T-shirt or blanket.

I would definitely recommend this toddler sleep sack to other parents. It’s super-soft, comfortable, lightweight and my son slept great (all night!) while wearing it. And he was able to move and play freely with the leg design.

Size range: 12M-2T to 3T-4T | Material: 70% bamboo rayon/30% cotton | TOG rating: 0.8 TOG | Care instructions: Machine wash cold gentle cycle. Tumble dry low heat gentle

Our product tester says: “I love that my son can walk, run and play in the sleep sack, which makes it easy to get him ready for bedtime and then take care of his brother, allowing my toddler full mobility and quiet play before bed. The leg design is nice and roomy but still warm and cozy.”

Best budget-friendly toddler sleep sack

Bublo Baby Toddler Sleep Sacks with Feet
Image: Amazon
What We Love
  • Affordable price tag
  • Great for warmer months
  • Breathable cotton material
Things To Consider
  • Mixed reviews on zipper quality
  • Zipper a little noisy

The Bublo Baby Toddler Sleep Sack with Feet is hands down the best budget-friendly sleep sack I tested—and one I’d confidently recommend to any parent looking for affordability without sacrificing comfort or quality. At under $20, it offers many of the features you’d expect from sleep sacks retailing at twice the price.

My 22-month-old son had full freedom of movement in this sleep sack, walking and playing comfortably before bed and in the morning. The two-way zipper glides smoothly without catching the fabric and makes diaper changes quick and simple, although it was a bit louder than others I tested. It’s also incredibly easy to get on and off, even with a wiggly toddler.

Image: Christine C.

Made of 100 percent cotton, this sleep sack was ultra-soft and comfortable. The quality of the garment is great for the money—the fabric and stitching seem like they’ll hold up beautifully in the wash and with extended use over the next several months. There are internal tags (which I don't love), but they are soft and can be cut close to the seam, which I will definitely do to avoid any annoyance for my toddler. The design is sweet and simple. My son especially loved the star print, pointing to it and smiling at bedtime, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

With its solid fit, breathable fabric and toddler-friendly design, the Bublo Baby delivers outstanding value with many design features found in pricier sleep sacks. For parents on a budget—or just looking for a great everyday option—it’s a smart, reliable pick.

Size range: 3-6M to 3-4T | Material: Cotton | TOG rating: 0.5 TOG |Care instructions: Machine wash

Our product tester says: “At $17.99, I feel this sleep sack is a fantastic value for the money. While other sleep sacks can be double that price (or more), the Bublo Baby has many of the great features (double zipper, breathable, lightweight fabric, feet for mobility) as a more expensive sleep sack, it is priced under $20, which I think is more than fair.”

Best easy to put on sleep sack for toddlers

Ergobaby Sleeping Bag On The Move
Image: Amazon
Buying Options
Ergobaby|$29
What We Love
  • Easy to put on and adjust
  • Converts from sack to footed style
  • Seatbelt slot
Things To Consider
  • May fit oversized on younger toddlers

The Ergobaby On the Move Sleep Bag stood out as the easiest sleep sack to put on during testing—earning a perfect 10 out of 10 score for ease of use. Korin particularly appreciated the smart combo of adjustable shoulder snaps and a smooth two-way zipper, saying: “There are adjustable snaps at the shoulders that grow with your child, along with a full zip down the front to make diaper and pull-up changes easy.” Her daughter could be zipped in quickly, even when squirmy and the fit adjusted as she grew.

This convertible design also earned praise for its versatility. With a simple snap at each side, the bottom can transform from a traditional sleep sack to one with legs, offering flexibility for bedtime or active mornings. While Korin didn’t need the seatbelt slot, she noted it would be a nice feature for families on the go.

Image: Korin M.

The sleep sack scored highly in all other categories as well, including material quality, washability, and style. Made from soft mid-weight cotton with reinforced piping, it held up well in the wash—”I just tossed it in with the rest of the laundry in the washer and dryer—that was it,” Korin explains. “It didn't shrink or pill in the wash, and there were no snags, despite being washed with velcro-heavy ice hockey equipment.”

The sleep sack is generously sized to fit a wide age range from 6 to 18 months or 18 to 36 months, which means it offers a long wear window, but can be quite large on kids at the lower end of that range. Korin noted that while the roomy fit allows for growth, it may feel oversized at first and fits better as your child gets older.

Size range: Size M: 6-18 Months, Size L: 18-36 Months | Material: Cotton | TOG rating: 0.5 TOG | Care instructions: Machine wash

Our product tester says:
“This sleep sack has a generous fit, giving my daughter plenty of room to grow into. There are adjustable snaps at the shoulders that grow with your child, along with a full zip down the front to make diaper and pull-up changes easy.”

Best toddler sleep sack for diaper changes

aden + anais boutique 100% cotton muslin light sleep sack
Image: Amazon
What We Love
  • Unzips from the bottom for easy diaper changes
  • Organic cotton muslin material
  • Cute neutral patterns
Things To Consider
  • Longer length could be a trip hazard
  • Zip guard can be obstructive

Next up is the aden + anais boutique sleep sack. This pick has many benefits, from its breathable natural material and chic design to the roomy fit that your child can grow into over time. But the real stand-out feature is the clever zipper design that makes diaper changes a breeze. Unlike other sleep sacks, this pick has a long zipper that unfastens from the bottom up, so you can easily change your child’s diaper at night with minimal sleep disruption. The zipper itself is quiet, simple to use and is protected by a soft tab that prevents irritation at the neckline.

Unzipping from the bottom makes diaper changes a breeze. Using it was super simple, with no fiddly openings. The zipper is relatively quiet, which I appreciated. I don't change my son's diapers overnight so I didn't have an experience disturbing or waking him while doing changes. While wearing the sleep sack, full diapers stayed in place without any issues.

Image: Christine C.

The 100 percent organic cotton muslin fabric is incredibly lightweight and gauzy, ideal for warmer months or hot sleepers. I particularly loved the exterior seams, which offer a unique, tag-free comfort that my toddler clearly appreciated—he slept longer and more peacefully in this than in heavier options, earning it a top score for material.

While my toddler did well with this sleep sack during naps and bedtime, there are a few drawbacks. It’s quite oversized, which is an intentional design feature, so that your child has room to grow into it. But as a result there’s a lot of extra length, which created a tripping hazard during early morning movement. And while the zip guard protects well, it can make it tricky to get the zipper started quickly—something to keep in mind if your toddler is squirmy (like mine!)

Still, for comfort and functionality, especially during summer nights or diapering routines, this sleep sack is an excellent choice.

Size range: 0-6 months to 18-36 months | Material: Cotton muslin | TOG rating: 1 TOG | Care instructions: Machine wash

Our product tester says: “This sleepsack unzipped from the bottom, making diaper changes a breeze. It was super simple with no fiddly openings. The zipper is relatively quiet, which I appreciated. [] While wearing the sleep sack, full diapers stayed in place without any issues.”

Our community says:

I've seen aden + anais brand sleep sacks that are made from that muslin-like fabric of their swaddling blankets. They call them sleeping bags and it looks like their XL size is for 18-24 months, 26-36lbs/35-38" long. - umdbride, The Bump forum member

I was going to suggest [aden + anais] as well. Target carries them in the store so you can look at them to see if they will be the right size and feel the fabric. - alliapistor, The Bump forum member

Best toddler sleep sack for all seasons

Woolino merino wool sleep sack
Image: Woolino
What We Love
  • Durable two-layer fabric
  • Double shoulder snaps
  • Multi-season use
Things To Consider
  • Expensive

The Woolino is beloved by parents thanks to its soft, temperature-regulating material that's suitable for all seasons. The only downside? A hefty price tag. Mom of four Korin put it to the test with her 12-month-old to see if it was worth the hype. (Spoiler: It is!)

First off, let’s address the fabric composition. The Woolino sleep sack has an organic cotton outer layer and is lined with Merino wool. The Merino wool layer is naturally thermo-regulating, meaning it’ll keep baby warm in winter and cool in summer. Unlike other sleep sacks the Woolino doesn’t have a TOG rating, but according to the brand it can be used year-round as long as the room temperature sits between 63 and 75°Fahrenheit. Korin told us it wasn’t super heavyweight, but thanks to the addition of wool and cotton, it was “a quality piece.” Worried about the wool fabric being itchy? Don’t be—the super-fine knit is actually soft as silk and gentle enough for sensitive skin, “Everything about it is comfortable and versatile, making it a good choice for families who are in search of an organic option,” adds Korin. Given the premium fabric, it’s no surprise this pick earned a 10 out of 10 score for materials.

Image: Korin M.

Even after washing, the fabric showed no signs of wear. “The fabric is durable and didn't pill or shrink in the wash,” says Korin. She was also a fan of the overall style and design of this sleep sack. “It also comes in a slew of pretty patterns and has an overall sleek look,” continues Korin.

The Woolino has a zipper that runs down the full length of the sleep sack. “A second zipper head at the bottom allows you to get in and out for diapering without having to undo the whole thing, which is genius,” says Korin, who found it very easy to use.

The roomy fit offers plenty of space to grow into, which makes it a solid long-term investment. That said, it does limit mobility, so it’s best suited for sleep rather than walking or play. At $109, it’s definitely a splurge—but for families looking for durability, natural materials, and true year-round usability, it’s worth it!

Size range: baby: 2 months to 2 years, toddler: 2-4 years | Material: 100% cotton shell/ 100% merino wool lining | TOG rating: 1 TOG | Care instructions: Machine wash on low (100°F max), use wool or mild detergent.

Our product tester says: “This sleep sack has a high quality look and feel, and it's incredibly comfortable to the touch. The zippers are thick and sturdy, and the trim around the sack blends seamlessly into the rest of the sack. The weight is perfect for year-round use.”

Our community says:

I finally bought a merino wool sleep sack (Woolino brand) and it's a miracle I swear! He slept through the past two nights and didn't wake up cold or sweaty once. The wool is great for regulating body temp and wicking moisture if they do get sweaty. It was $80, which is hard to swallow, but is adjustable and good from (approx.) 3-24 months! I WISH I had bought one of these from the beginning because we would have saved money buying all the different sizes and materials to try. - biblionerd

What to Look for in a Toddler Sleep Sack

On the hunt for a snuggly toddler sleep sack? As you browse, keep the following tips in mind:

  • Size. Of course, you’ll want to make sure you choose a toddler sleep sack that’s the correct size for your kiddo. To do so, Thistel advises parents to check the style’s age, weight and height details before purchasing. It shouldn’t “be too tight and restrictive (which could be uncomfortable and limiting to toddlers), and we also don’t want it to be too loose,” explains Thistel.

  • TOG rating. Unique to sleep-related products, a TOG rating indicates what temperatures the sleep sack is best suited for. As per Thistel, “in the summer months, or in warmer climates, it typically makes sense to use a lighter sleep sack with a lower TOG.” She continues, “in colder climates, or winter months, parents may want to use a warmer sleep sack with a higher TOG.” All in all, you’ll want to ensure that your child is at just the right temperature as they snooze—not too hot or too cold.

  • Material. Thistel recommends choosing toddler sleep sacks that are made from lightweight, comfortable and breathable materials. This is especially important “if a toddler has any type of irritation when it comes to certain fabrics,” she notes.

Toddler Sleep Sack Safety Tips

Many of the safety tips associated with baby sleep sacks are the same for toddler wearable blankets. According to the AAP, “weighted swaddles, weighted clothing or weighted objects on or near the baby are not safe and not recommended.” This includes weighted sleep sacks, which can potentially be harmful to little ones. Moreover, the AAP advises parents not to use loose blankets or bedding in baby’s sleep environment until they’re at least 12-months-old.

Of course, as Thistel reminds us, you don’t have to switch to a blanket at 12 months old. As always, take your child’s unique developmental level into account before introducing a new element into their sleep space. “Toddlers typically do better with understanding the concept of keeping a blanket on when they are around the age of 3 years old (sometimes a bit earlier or even a bit later),” Thistel adds.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should toddlers stop using a sleep sack?

There isn’t a specific age at which toddlers should stop using sleep sacks. That being said, “it typically makes sense to transition them away from the sleep sack around the time that they transition to a bed (which is usually around the age of 3 years old),” explains Thistel. For some little ones, this change may take place earlier if the sleep sack is no longer working for them—while others may take longer to part ways with their wearable blankets. Thistel reassures parents that the process will be unique for each kiddo. “We have 3 children (including twin toddlers), our oldest son slept with his sleep sack until the age of 2, one of our twins was ready to transition out of her sleep sack when she was 2.5 years old, and our other twin preferred to stay in her sleep sack until she was 3 years old,” she shares.

How do I transition my child out of a sleep sack?

Is your tot ready to graduate from a toddler sleep sack and into “big-kid” bedding? “Thankfully the transition out of the sleep sack isn’t usually a challenging transition (especially when compared to the transition out of the swaddle!),” says Thistel. If your child is showing signs of readiness, Thistel suggests letting them know ahead of time that this transition will be taking place. “Having open dialogue can help them prepare, especially if they are very attached to their sleep sack,” she explains. Instead of removing the sleep sack from their bedtime routine all at once, do so gradually.

“One strategy that I really love is having the toddler choose a new, small, light blanket that you can introduce, to start getting them used to sleeping with a blanket before you take the sleep sack away completely,” recommends Thistel. When doing this, Thistel advises parents to dress their little ones in a lightweight sleep sack, placing their blanket of choice over them as they rest. This way, they can get used to the idea of sleeping with a blanket. Then, once they’re comfortable with it, you can remove the sleep sack entirely. Lastly, Thistel reminds parents that “it may take some time for your toddler to keep a blanket on all night, and that’s okay! Give them some time and practice to get used to the new change.”
