When NFL player Dawuane Smoot, 26, found out he was going to be a dad again, he likely wasn’t expecting to have to deliver his baby at home by himself.

The Jacksonville Jaguars player welcomed a baby girl, named Ahlani Moon Smoot, with his wife Aumari on Tuesday, October 19—but the labor and delivery experience was unlike anything the couple imagined.

Smoot opened up about the experience on Instagram, sharing, “For the past 9 months my wife and I both dreamt of having our second child and first daughter but nothing could have prepared us for this. Seeing you collapse on the floor while walking out the door to the hospital was the scariest moment of my life. But seeing your strength to stay calm and not panic allowed me to realize everything was going to be okay. God had our back.”

“I can’t thank you enough for being such a strong woman and bringing our daughter Ahlani Moon Smoot into this world at home,” he continued. “You are a true warrior. I trust God and the path he has my family on. I thank him for looking after my wife, Ahlani, Ahmir, and myself all this time. I will always owe you.”

Aumari also [shared[(https://www.instagram.com/p/CVQDWHpgdQq/) the experience to her social media. “Yesterday my husband and I welcomed our little miracle, Ahlani Moon Smoot, into this world. If you haven’t heard, there were some complications that caused me to collapse and forced my brave husband to do the birth at home. I am so grateful to have you babe,” she wrote. “I also want to thank the 911 operator that talked him through the birthing process, the medical staff at the hospital once we arrived, and of course God. He was truly looking out for us yesterday and allowed me to make a full recovery.”

“Life is a rollercoaster of emotions and events that I’m glad to be experiencing with the loves of my life in my husband, son Ahmir, and now our daughter,” she continued. “Thank you everyone for the prayers and reaching out. It truly means a lot. Have a blessed day.”

Congratulations to the growing family!
