Man’s ‘Worst Songs to Play While Your Wife Is Labor’ List Goes Viral
There’s a playlist for just about everything these days. From inspiring playlists to get you out of bed to ones that set the mood on date night and hype ones for working out, in a world filled with playlists, it’s natural that music would make its way into the delivery room. While some parents spend hours crafting the perfect relaxing or inspirational soundtrack for labor, one TikTok creator took a slightly different approach—going for laughs instead.
In a now-viral video, music lover and TikTok comedian @potatosauraus shares his list of “the worst songs to play while your wife is in labor.” Created with humor in mind, the playlist includes 10 tongue-in-cheek tracks sure to spark a smile:
- Push it by Salt-N-Pepper
- Leave (Get Out!) by JoJo
- Closing Time by Semisonic
- Under Pressure by Queen
- Pop Goes the Weasel (the nursery rhyme classic)
- I’m Coming Out by Diana Ross
- Let it Go by Idina Menzel (from Frozen)
- I Want to Break Free by Queen
- Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles
- Whoomp! (There It Is) by Tag Team
Though he jokingly called it the “worst” playlist and said his wife would “kick me out of the delivery room,” plenty of commenters were inspired. “Thanks for putting together my labor playlist,” one person wrote. “Inappropriate? This is basically my wife’s entire labor playlist,” added one dad-to-be. Another chimed in, “I played Push It for my wife’s labor and she busted out laughing and dancing. Would recommend.” One commenter even dropped a fun fact: "Closing Time was actually written by the lead singer as a hidden song about his wife having their first baby.”
Labor and delivery nurses were quick to jump in with their two cents. “As a former L&D RN I’ve heard most of these in the delivery room,” wrote one. Another added, “I wouldn’t mind any of them except Pop Goes the Weasel—you’d be out the door with that one.” One midwife offered practical advice: “Make a playlist with both these songs and some calm ones. You can change them as needed. It’s all about what mom wants!”
