Keeping Baby’s Name a Secret?
We're keeping the name a secret until delivery, but people keep asking. How can we get them to back off?
Have you tried saying, “Back off!”? That’s about as good as you can do, short of fibbing a bit. Phrases like, “We’re still trying to decide,” might save you more grief than, “We’re not telling,” which begs for a follow-up question about why. If you’ve already made it clear that you’re keeping names under wraps and get the inevitable, “Come on, you can just tell me,” explain how much you’re looking forward to introducing the baby in a few months — and then change the subject pronto. If you’re firm about your decision and don’t seem likely to give in, they’ll be quicker to take the hint and drop it.
