Beloved “Funkdafied" rapper Da Brat and beauty entrepreneur Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart are expecting their first baby together.

Da Brat revealed her pregnancy with a gangster-themed maternity shoot photographed by People. While the Da Brat told People that the idea of growing their family started as a joke when Harris-Dupart decided to expand her brand with the addition of a Da Brat collaboration, the couple soon took the concept a little more seriously.

"It started as a joke, we were like, ‘We’re extending our family!’ But then we got a huge response. It was like, ‘Oh my God do we want to actually have kids, and if we do, girl, we better hurry up,’ Da Brat recalled.

“It’s been quite a journey,” said Da Brat, who admitted that at 48 years old, “there’s a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40.” The rapper, who has enjoyed a multi-decade career, admitted to People that she “never thought I was going to have kids. I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me.”

But after meeting Harris-Dupart, the rap artist changed her mind and began a gauntlet of procedures needed to get pregnant, including having to undergo surgery to remove fibroids and polyps prior to her embryo transfer procedure.

Shortly after her first transplant Da Brat had a heartbreaking miscarriage. “I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted,” Da Brat told people. “I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me.”

“Luckily,” she said, “we still had quite a few of her eggs left.” The couple underwent another implantation and is now 18 weeks pregnant. Firmly into her second trimester, Da Brat told People, “It’s just a blessing. I’m excited! I don’t have any cravings or nausea,” she added, “but I’m always sleepy. It’s crazy!”

Our congratulations to Da Brat and Harris-Dupont on their growing baby!
