Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani and Mamiko Tanaka Welcome Their First Child
The reigning National League MVP has a new title and it might be his best yet!
The pitching and hitting phenom Shohei Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, announced their first child’s arrival this past weekend. "Welcome to the Ohtani Family! I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter. To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents,” he captioned a photo of his newborn’s feet.
“I would also like to thank the Dodgers organization, my teammates, and the fans for their constant support and kind words of encouragement,” Ohtani added. “I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals and everyone who dedicated their support to us, up until this wonderful day.”
The couple first announced they were expecting in December 2024 with a heartwarming Instagram post featuring their beloved dog, Decoy, sitting beside a tiny baby onesie. “Can’t wait for the little rookie to join our family soon,” the star captioned the photo sending fans into a frenzy of congratulations and well-wishes.
Ohtani stunned fans in early 2024 when he revealed he was married, later confirming that his wife is former professional basketball player Mamiko Tanaka. The couple have kept their relationship largely out of the public eye since.
The new dad joins a growing roster of MLB stars starting families. New York Yankees star Aaron Judge recently welcomed his first child in January, while the New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso recently announced he’s expecting his first child later this year.
