Love Is Blind’s Lauren & Cameron Talk Baby Names and Pregnancy Tips
Lauren Speed and Cameron Hamilton captured America’s hearts and found their perfect match on season one of Love is Blind in 2020. Now, they’re rounding out the fairytale with a baby boy. Their path to parenthood hasn’t been storybook-perfect, though. The couple’s four-year fertility journey was filled with doctors’ appointments, shots, prayers and plenty of ups and downs. But as they prepare to welcome their son next month, they’re opening up once again, offering both their story and their best advice for parents chasing the same dream.
“It took us four long years to get to this point. It was hard. I didn’t know if it was going to happen, but we pushed through, we stayed faithful and we did everything we could. And this last time was the one…We’re so excited!” the Hamiltons shared in an exclusive interview with The Bump.
Lauren and Cameron answered the big boy or girl question in cinematic, front-page fashion on August 1. They filmed their reaction as a newspaper reading, “Extra extra, It’s a boy,” was delivered to their home. Lauren, who was team boy, was thrilled, though she admitted she felt for Cameron’s dashed hopes of raising a daddy’s girl. “Seeing Lauren with her dad was such a beautiful thing. Selfishly, I wanted that as well,” Cameron said. “But there’s no gender disappointment. Let me be very clear. I’m super excited to have a son and just pour into him.”
While the couple had saved names for years, with the big boy news they had to go back to the drawing board. “I always just knew I was going to have a girl first. So I had all these girl names, then it was like, ‘Nope, joke’s on you it’s a little boy.’ So we had to start from square one,” Lauren confessed.
They tossed around names like Ellington and Winter before settling on one they plan to keep private until their baby arrives. What they did share is that the name will pay tribute to Lauren’s late father, Bill. “We definitely plan on honoring him in more ways than one, including a part of his name,” Lauren said.
As for their big birth announcement, the Hamiltons promise it will be memorable. “I think I set the bar pretty high with our pregnancy announcement and our gender reveal,” Lauren said. “We have a couple more weeks to brainstorm, but maybe we will continue on the cinematic route, maybe we will do something, Fall-y since he’s a fall baby.”
The celebration also ties into their new partnership with Pampers. In addition to crafting their own announcement, the couple is helping highlight Pampers’ sweepstakes awarding a year’s worth of free diapers to 100 lucky parents who upload a photo of their newborn and tag the brand. “Babies go through so many diapers. I had no idea how many! So I think this is huge. We’re happy to be helping these couples out with a year’s supply of diapers,” the Hamiltons said.
The couple also spoke directly to those still facing fertility struggles. “Over our journey, I’ve definitely had some friends make their announcements, and it’s such an odd feeling—just being fully transparent—because you are happy for your friends, but then also it kind of turns a mirror back on yourself. And I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s just a realization,” Lauren said.
“But my advice would be to just stay positive, even though I know that it can be difficult. One thing, Cameron, he goes to the research. I like to read people’s testimonies about maybe they tried for a long time and when they least expected it, that’s when it happened. That’s pretty much our testimony now.”
Now, as Lauren enters her final stretch of pregnancy, she’s eager to share what she’s learned along the way. “The third trimester is interesting because the first one was a challenge. The second one that lightened up a little bit. Third trimester. I’m back in the trenches, girl,” Lauren said.
“Okay. I am tired of having the acid reflux, but it’s all worth it. Like I said, we’ve worked hard to get to this point, so I really have no complaints, but it has been challenging. That tiredness definitely comes back,” she added. “But what I would tell other women going through third trimester challenges, it is just first off, listen to your body, relax if you need to and raise your feet. Because listen, my feet have been so swollen, so I’ve learned that compression socks and raising, elevating my feet, my friend.”
“And when I have the energy, get out and do a walk that lifts my whole spirit, gets my blood circulating and I just feel better. It’s like a little push. So if you have the energy, try to get outside and go for a little walk too, and then elevate your feet afterwards. Oh and go ahead and eat the cupcake girl. That’s my advice. Eat the cupcake.”
