Phillies' Bryce Harper and Wife Kayla Welcome Baby No. 4
The Philadelphia Phillies have a special new fan cheering them on as they battle the Los Angeles Dodgers for Major League Baseball’s National League Division Series title.
Phillies star Bryce Harper and his wife, Kayla, announced the arrival of their fourth child shortly before the series began. “Decided to add more chaos to Red October. Hayes Three Harper,” the couple captioned a sweet Instagram photo of their newborn.
Hayes, a name of British origin with Irish roots, typically means “Descendant of Aodh” or “fire.” It could also be a subtle nod to NBA Hall of Famer Elvin Hayes. What’s clear though is that Hayes’ middle name, Three, is a tribute to Dad’s big league jersey number.
In the comments, friends, fans and fellow celebrities flooded the couple with congratulations. “Just in time for little man to witness his daddy win the World Series,” one fan wrote. “Dad strength engaged!” added another. White Lotus actor Patrick Schwarzenegger chimed in with “Congrats guys,” while NFL marketing agent Jacquelyn Dahl commented, “Perfect timing! Congrats y’all!”
Harper captured hearts and headlines earlier this year with his exciting in-game gender reveal. The eight-time All-Star asked teammate Trea Turner before the game to help by handing him either a pink bat or a blue one before his first-inning at-bat.
“I was confused at first, but I think he wanted to share that moment with us,” the shortstop told MLB.com. “I think it was pretty cool. He’s a pretty creative guy. He let us know in our team meeting. He kind of wanted to share the moment with everybody. He was nice enough to ask me to do it. I thought it was a nice moment for him and his family. I think they were all watching here from up top.”
Turner, who had gotten a text confirming it was a boy, took some extra time to play around with Harper—picking up a pink bat and swinging it a bit before setting it back down. Harper, convinced baby no. 4 was going to be a girl, didn’t see it coming.
“So when I was messing with him, he was like, ‘I knew it was a girl.’ Then, I handed him the blue one. I said, ‘You’re not going to need that pink one.’ He was just excited. I think he would have been excited either way, but now, he’s got two of each. Kind of a complete family already, but like I said, anytime you can add another person to the family, I think it’s special. I think he was super excited.”
The Harpers are high-school sweethearts who married in December 2016 before welcoming their first child, son Krew, in August 2019. The two also share daughters Brooklyn and Kamryn.
