Olympic Volleyball Star Alix Klineman Welcomes Her First Child

Olympic volleyball gold medalist Alix Klineman and NHL Pro Teddy Purcell are officially parents!

The engaged couple shared the happy news with friends and family on Instagram on June 12. “Theodore Gray Purcell 🤍 6/9/23,” Klineman captioned a carousel of photos and videos featuring images of Klineman with her baby boy, Purcell lounging with baby at home and even the dad-to-be enjoying a piece of bacon laid up on a hospital cot awaiting baby.

Theodore, typically a masculine name of Greek origin, has shot to popularity since 2008, currently claiming spot number 20 on the list of most popular boy names. A moniker of presidential proportions, Theodore comes from the Greek word Theos, meaning “god-given”, and dōron, meaning "gift”, Theodore stands as “a gift from God.”

USA Volleyball and Klineman’s past teammates, like April Ross Beach and Kelly Reeves, reached out with their congratulations. “This is deeply wonderful. What a trio,” commented actor and new dad, Josh Peck, while Gena Urango added a simple “He’s perfect!”

One of the stars of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Klineman and Purcell first announced they were expecting a child together with an Instagram post on January 23. The fun carousel of photos and videos featured images of the volleyball player holding her sonogram photo, shots from the couple’s sex reveal party and a video of Klineman’s ultrasound appointment.

Within the photos, Klineman revealed that she was expecting a boy and joked with Purcell, a once hopeful girl dad, about “getting through disappointment with the sex of your child.” The professional beach volleyball player simply captioned the post, “Lately.”

The professional sports power couple got engaged in June 2021 after the former NHL star popped the question. “You and me, FOREVER, @teddypurcell,” Klineman captioned the post announcing their engagement.
