Succession’s Sarah Snook Dedicates Emmy Win to Her Daughter

Sarah Snook took home the award for outstanding lead actress in a drama series at the 75th Annual Emmy Awards on Monday and she had one very important person to thank.

After thanking her Succession cast, the behind-the-scenes team and her family, the star known for her role as Shiv Roy gave her “biggest thank you” to “someone who won’t understand anything that I’m saying at the moment, but I carried her with me in this last season. And really, it was her who carried me," she said referring to her daughter.

“It’s very easy to act when you’re pregnant because you’ve got hormones raging. It was more that the proximity of her life growing inside me gave me the strength to do this and this performance, and I love you so much,” Snook added. “And it’s all for you from here on out. Thank you.”

Snook and her husband, Dave Lawson, welcomed their first child into the world the day after the popular show’s series finale debuted. In a heartfelt Instagram post made on May 29, the star recapped her experience on the hit HBO series, thanked those who had supported her and excitedly welcomed her next adventure.

“I just watched the final episode of the final season of something that has changed my life. And now, my life has changed again,” she captioned the photo of her and her newborn streaming the show. “Thank you for all the love and support.”

Snook initially kept her pregnancy under wraps before surprising fans by debuting her baby bump at the season four premiere of the HBO drama. At 32 weeks pregnant, Snook stepped out on the red carpet in a flowing black v-neck jumpsuit and glittering silver cardigan. “It’s exciting!” Snook told Entertainment Tonight when asked about her pregnancy. “I feel great.”

Snook also confirmed that she was pregnant while filming the final season of Succession as Shiv Roy but joked that no beachballs or umbrellas were needed to cover up her smaller bump at the time. “I mean, you couldn’t super tell,” Snook said with a laugh. “It’s not super big, at least at the moment.”

In an interview with Vogue in 2021, the Predestination actress said that she and Lawson had been friends since 2014 but connected deeper during the pandemic lockdown and fell in love. Shortly after, Snook proposed to the comedian on Halloween 2020, and the two tied the knot in her backyard in February 2021.
