Zodiac Signs

Designing baby’s nursery is without a doubt one of the most exciting ways to prepare for your little one’s arrival, and picking colors for the space is the best way to get started. After all, the hues on baby’s walls will affect the entire mood of the room, not to mention your picks for all the décor. If you’re having trouble figuring out which shades are sure to make baby feel right at home, let the stars—and baby’s due date—be your guide. From earthy and mellow neutrals to dynamic and energizing jewel tones, these zodiac-inspired paint combos will help personalize the nursery.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)

Refreshing and Subtle

A deep plum hue surrounded by soft, neutral greys not only match a Capricorn’s determined and confident nature, it gives the room a sense of order and a unified theme. Capricorn doesn’t mind rules (a parent’s dream come true!), and will love the way this palette invokes a dreamy mindset. White bedding and textiles with grey or plum accents keep the look cohesive.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)

Brisk and Inviting

You can expect an Aquarius to be upbeat, full of energy, and easily entertained by their favorite toy for (what feels like) forever. To complement this air sign’s lively personality, choose a color palette with a statement hue of bold teal accompanied by soft shades of tan and blue. You could even paint the ceiling light blue and hang airplane and hot air balloon décor to create an “up in the air” theme.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

Calming and Charismatic

Pisces’ passionate, caring personality will have them always striving to please you (music to a parent’s ears), and a soothing color palette of blues and greens is a good way to complement their kind spirit. Create a room made for dreaming by using a dark navy to paint the night sky across the walls with a glimmer of stars, then weave in the lighter tones with bedding, rugs and décor.

Aries (March 21–April 19)

Brave and Bold

Parents-to-be can look forward to this fire sign becoming a natural-born leader with a curious spirit and playful charm. A contrasting duo of classic burgundy and navy blue pairs perfectly with Aries’ energetic and daring personality. To tie the room together, use these bold shades throughout the nursery and accent with a light neutral beige or blush tone.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)

Earthy and Mellow

Get ready for lots of snuggles, sweet hugs and adorable giggles. Taurus tends to be naturally warmhearted and loving, and this earthy palette with subtle shades of sage green, sandy beige, and a golden yellow will match their gentle temperament. Why not use these hues as the starting point for a safari-themed nursery with plenty of stuffed animals for baby to cuddle?

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)

Lively and Fresh

Geminis are typically lively and social, so go with a stimulating color scheme. Contrasting colors like burnt gold and a vibrant shade of teal are sure to spark baby’s playful imagination and add a modern touch to the nursery when used as accents on a piece of furniture or in baby’s bedding. Meanwhile, a lighter shade of mint green on the walls creates a calming effect—ideal for naptime.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

Whimsical and Dreamy

As a water sign, Cancer typically thrives in artistic, visionary spaces. As they grow, you’ll notice their overflowing creativity and need for a space to retreat and reflect. With dreamy shades of blue and grey, you can create that sanctuary effect baby needs. Continue the ocean-like oasis with a sea-life mobile, underwater-themed artwork and an abstract blue rug.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

Warm and Creative

The energetic, kindhearted nature of a Leo could not be painted better (no pun intended) than with this warm and inviting palette rooted in golden undertones. Since dark colors can make a room look smaller, welcome this sign’s optimistic spirit with a deep gold accent wall, surrounded by lighter shades of yellow and beige. Tie the room together with a crib and rocking chair in light-colored wood tones.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)

Charming and Serene

A variety of hues in the same color family make an idea palette for reserved and loyal Virgo. Plus, calming shades of green can help soothe the worry-prone earth sign—not to mention make an ideal starting point for a jungle or woodland-inspired nursery. For a creative twist, try painting an ombre effect on one wall using the three hues.

Libra (September 23 - October 22)

Majestic and Soothing

Libra’s love of being surrounded by others may have you spending more time in the nursery than you anticipated, but with a color palette as refreshing as this trio of pastels, you won’t mind one bit. Pale blue, dusty yellow and blush pink complement Libra’s easygoing and charming personality. Consider choosing one statement color to paint stripes on an accent wall for an extra-stylish touch.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)

Dynamic and Energizing

With a magnetic personality and innate curiosity about their surroundings, Scorpio babies need a color palette that brings out their love for adventure. As the years go by, you’ll find them playing make-believe, acting out imaginary scenes, and making their favorite bedtime stories come to life. Dramatic Scorpio will feel right at home with this striking combo of dark purple, coral and grey.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)

Blissful and Wonderous

Those born under the Sagittarius sign love travel, learning new things, and the freedom of wide open spaces, so consider going with an exploration and adventure-inspired nursery. Use a palette of peachy orange and misty light blue to create a feeling of excitement, then add a teepee in one corner (perfect for playtime), and paint some mountains and a cluster of fluffy clouds on the wall behind it.
