In a nutshell:

Based on extensive research and survey feedback from 350 members of The Bump community, we chose the Maternity Poplin Pajama Set by Old Navy as the overall best pregnancy pajamas due to the soft cotton fabric, long-line top and affordable price tag.

Cozy, quality pajamas are always a treat—especially for moms-to-be. And if you enjoy snuggling up at home (who doesn’t?), you may want to refresh your loungewear collection. Whether you’re newly pregnant or in your final trimester, maternity pajamas are definitely worth the investment. After all, maternity sleepwear is designed for fashion and function.

The best pregnancy pajamas and nightgowns are made from breathable fabrics, have a relaxed fit and adjust to accommodate your growing bump. Choose a shirt and pants set for chillier weather (or when you’re at home all day with the air-conditioner blasting). Or swap out the pants for maternity pajama shorts if you tend to get hot at night. For a chic look, a maternity nightgown is another great option. It’s a smart way to stay cooler at night while you’re sleeping, and it can be worn underneath a robe for daytime style. And when it comes to comfort and fit, you can’t really beat a free-flowing nightgown. Whatever option you choose, pregnancy pajama sets can be worn during all three trimesters and beyond. Keep reading to discover our favorite brands and browse a selection of maternity nightwear given the seal of approval by real parents.

How We Chose the Best Maternity Pajamas

We get it—finding comfy pregnancy clothing can be tricky. So it’s no wonder many expectant parents spend a large proportion of time in pajamas. To help you find the best maternity pajamas, our goal is to do the bulk of the research for you, so you don’t have to spend hours scrolling through online retailers. Here’s how we did this:

  • In March 2024 we surveyed 350 new and expectant moms in The Bump community and asked them to share their feedback on the maternity pajamas they wore during pregnancy.

  • Based on survey feedback, we considered a list of criteria when pregnancy PJ’s including: comfort, price, material, breathability, quality, longevity and room for growth.

  • We leveraged our familiarity with leading maternity brands to make sure items are from reliable manufacturers. And since many of us are also parents, we relied on our writers’ and editors’ experience using these products.

  • To see how these pajamas worked for a variety of new moms, we conducted exhaustive market research, scouring forums and message boards and reading user reviews to find out what parents across the country looked for when choosing nightwear.

Editorial integrity is at the heart of everything we publish. Read about how The Bump develops and reviews all articles, including product reviews.
