Boston Hospitals Welcome First Three Babies of 2024
As people worldwide welcomed the new year surrounded by their loved ones, three families embraced the arrival of 2024 with the addition of new best friends!
In a remarkable three-way tie for the title of “the first baby of the new year,” two distinguished Boston hospitals—Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center—celebrated the simultaneous birth of three little girls precisely at midnight on January 1, 2024.
Margarita and Roberto of Dorchester joyously introduced Selena at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, marking the third consecutive year that the hospital has welcomed one of the first babies of the new year. According to a press release from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, “All are doing exceptionally well and resting comfortably.”
Meanwhile, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Eileen and Andrew DeRoma of Canton welcomed Emily, who now joins her older sisters Haylee, 4, and Kelsey, 3. Additionally, Min Li and Huaien Wang of Quincy celebrated the arrival of Ophelia, bringing further joy to the occasion.
The competition for the coveted title of the first baby of 2024 is taken quite seriously in Boston. The Public Affairs offices at Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Tufts Medical Center, and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center remain closely connected as the clock strikes midnight, collaborating to “determine which Boston hospital earns the honor of welcoming the first baby in 2024.”
While this year saw two hospitals sharing the designation of welcoming the first baby, all the parents involved undoubtedly emerged as the biggest winners of the new year!
