Shay Mitchell Is Wearing a Diaper During Pregnancy and She’s Not Afraid to Admit It

“I've never known that somebody could pee as much as you do when you're pregnant...In a half an hour, I went to the bathroom probably about 22 times.”

Shay Mitchell has a simple solution for her uncontrollable bladder during pregnancy. After sprinting to the bathroom one too many times, the former Pretty Little Liars actress is proud to say she now wears diapers, and more power to her.

This summer, the actress and mom-to-be announced plans to document her pregnancy journey in a biweekly YouTube series titled Almost Ready. The first episode premiered July 17, with a new episode going up every other Wednesday. In the second episode of her docuseries, called “Why I had to wear a diaper!!”, Mitchell opens up about her frequent urinations—a pregnancy symptom many expectant women know all too well.

“Making a conscious effort to slow down has been a bit of challenge, but the farther along I get in my pregnancy, the more instinctual it’s becoming. The love is difficult to describe, but she already means the world to me. Even if she’s forced me to wear diapers before I’ve gotten the chance to change hers…Ha,” she writes in the video’s description.

“You want to see something,” she asks while being filmed during a fitting. "Honestly guys, I’ve never known that somebody could pee as much as you do when you’re pregnant. I swear to God, in a half an hour, I went to the bathroom probably about 22 times last night, to the point where I was like, 'I’m f*cking wearing diapers.”

The 32-year-old then unzipped her trendy leather pants to prove her point. Mitchell has no shame in her wardrobe decision, and further explains how the diapers have been a total game changer. “I’m wearing a full-on diaper, okay? This isn’t even an ad for Depends,” she says. “I peed myself…You know, I’m having to pee way too much. It’s just like, I’m over it.”

Talk about keeping it real. Mitchell isn’t the first celebrity to give a glimpse into the not-so-glamorous side of pregnancy and motherhood. Amy Schumer marched to the beat of her own drum all throughout her pregnancy, and refused to shy away from talking about the severe pain she experienced at the hands of hyperemesis gravidarum. And Chrissy Teigen wasn’t shy to share her life-saving Frida MomWasher with fans after giving birth.

Motherhood is many things, but easy is not one of them. Honest conversations about what women experience help educate others on the realities women selflessly endure.
