40 Pregnancy Announcement Ideas You’ll Love
The positive test sat on the bathroom counter for several minutes before I told anyone. I took a photo—then another. Then I started brainstorming pregnancy announcement ideas, because somehow, sharing the news felt almost as big of a deal as the news itself.
As an avid knitter, I announced my first pregnancy by pairing tiny, hand-knit booties with my sonogram photo. When I was expecting my second child, his big brother posed in front of the Christmas tree, sporting a “big bro” T-shirt under his Santa pajamas and holding up the sonogram photo with a big smile.
Whether you’re bursting to tell everyone or carefully planning a quiet reveal, how you announce your pregnancy is deeply personal. Some parents love playful surprises, while others prefer heartfelt moments or simple photos that capture that “This is really happening!” feeling.
Below, we’ve rounded up pregnancy announcement ideas parents swear by—sourced from real families, social media and creators who graciously shared their stories.
- There’s no right way or perfect timing to make a pregnancy announcement—only what feels right to you.
- Some parents prefer big reveals, while others choose quiet, meaningful moments. There are also infinite styles for announcements—we offer plenty of baby announcement ideas below for every taste.
- Involving partners, siblings or grandparents can make the announcement extra special.
- Many parents wait until later in the first trimester to share, especially if there are medical or personal considerations.
Telling your partner you’re pregnant is often the most intimate pregnancy announcement of all. For some, it happens in a blur of happy tears. For others, it’s carefully planned, or saved for just the right moment. However it unfolds, many parents say this is one reveal they’ll never forget. Here are a few baby announcement ideas for your one-and-only:
Bear and balloons
Vanessa Louise Miller, mom-to-be and owner of DeliciousNess Bakery, shared the news with her husband with a bouquet of balloons tied to a teddy bear on their bed and recorded his sweet reaction as he opened the door. Their embrace and giggles say it all: “It was a magical day,” reflects Miller.
A Christmas miracle
Katie S., a mom of four, surprised her husband with a Christmas pregnancy announcement by wrapping her positive pregnancy test in a gift box. After shaking the box and joking that it might be a toothbrush top, he quickly realized what it was and jumped up to embrace her. “Going through infertility treatments, you don’t really get the chance to do a fun way to tell your partner, so this was so fun for me,” Katie wrote in the caption.
Pups to the rescue
Marina C., a mom of one in North Carolina, dressed up her pups with these adorable bandanas to surprise her partner, Hailey. “Our dogs were our original ‘kids,’ so we wanted to do something lighthearted that depicted how their lives would change too,” she says.
Becoming a grandparent is a big milestone, and many parents choose to share the news in a way that feels just as meaningful. Whether it’s a quiet moment or a joyful surprise, these baby announcements often become family stories retold for years.
Pregnancy announcement in a box
Daiana D., a mom of one in San Diego, created a pregnancy announcement box for her parents filled with confetti, a baby onesie, a personalized “born in 2025” beanie, a rattle, a framed sonogram and her positive test—a beautiful way to transform everyday items into a heartfelt, shareable pregnancy announcement.
The sweetest message
Tyla F., a mom of one from Brisbane, Australia, had her parents open a gift box that read “Only the best parents get promoted to grandparents,” with an adorable onesie inside featuring baby’s due month and year. “I have dreamt of this moment for years, telling Mum I’m pregnant,” she wrote in the caption.
For kids, a new sibling can feel exciting, confusing or both. That’s why many parents involve them directly in the announcement, turning the reveal into a moment of pride. Here are a few pregnancy announcement ideas involving siblings:
Sibling balloon pop
This creative baby announcement from Tiny Kicks USA turns the reveal into a mini activity just for the older child. In the video, the sibling is given a small box containing a balloon to pop with a safety pin, revealing a scratch-off message underneath that reads, “You’re going to be the best big sister!”—making the moment interactive, surprising and entirely centered on them.
I saw the sign
In this playful sibling announcement from @landr_photos, children hold numbered signs labeled “1,” “2” and “3,” with the final empty chair hinting at who’s coming next. Paired with pastel balloons, the setup turns a simple photo into a clever visual countdown that lets siblings be front-and-center in sharing the news.
Cookie reveal
Another fun sibling-themed idea is this shoot by Jessica Lauren Photography, featuring big sister decorating heart-shaped cookies, then breaking one open to reveal her baby sibling’s gender. The interactive setup keeps the focus on her excitement, turning the baby announcement into a sweet, hands-on moment.
Finding out you’re expecting twins makes for double the excitement—and often calls for an announcement that reflects just how big the news really is.
One onesie, two onesies
For a twin pregnancy announcement, one popular approach is a styled flat-lay that visually tells the whole story at once. In this example from Rachel of Twin Mom Social Club, two neutral ribbed onesies—each paired with its own ultrasound photo—tell the story and spell out “TWINS.” The duplicate details subtly reinforce the news, while the adorable sentiments “on my way” and “wait for me, I’m coming too!” add a sweet, lighthearted touch.
Twin ultrasounds
A humorous letterboard from @ashleymurphyfamily paired with twin ultrasound photos, confetti and hearts makes this announcement a playful way to share the sweet—and sometimes shocking—surprise of twins on the way.
Minimalist signs
These twin coordinating neutral signs from @bonniebabygifting make a twin pregnancy announcement modern and minimalistic yet still special. By pairing complementary phrases, the setup makes it clear that two babies are on the way without needing photos or extra props.
Not every pregnancy announcement needs a professional photoshoot, but for parents who enjoy marking milestones visually, photos can be a beautiful way to capture this moment.
Hearts full of love
In this Valentine’s Day–inspired pregnancy announcement captured by Michelle Johnson of bloom.in.grace.photos, a couple shares the news by holding a strip of ultrasound photos while surrounded by heart-shaped balloons. The simple setup keeps the focus on the emotion between the two parents-to-be, making it a sweet option for couples who want a polished photo that still feels personal and intimate. “Capturing a pregnancy announcement on Valentine’s Day feels especially special because it celebrates love not just as it is, but as it’s becoming,” says Johnson.
Beach time
In this beachside announcement captured by Samantha Farmer Photo + Film, a mirror placed in the sand reads “Baby on the way,” along with the due month, while ocean waves roll in behind the couple as they dance in the mirror’s reflection. “The goal was to create something that felt less staged and more like a memory—soft, sentimental and deeply personal,” says photographer Samantha Farmer.
Mom and dad hats
In this outdoor pregnancy announcement by Ryann Michelle Photography, the couple keeps things simple with coordinating “mom” and “dad” hats and a single sonogram photo held in Mom’s hands. The understated setup feels modern and intimate, letting the moment—and the news—speak for itself.
Letterboard pregnancy announcements remain popular for a reason: they’re simple, flexible and easy to personalize. Many parents like them because they let the message take center stage.
Coffee-themed announcement
The owners of specialty coffee shop Coffee Corral announced their pregnancy with a cozy, coffee-themed setup featuring a letterboard, ultrasound photos, matching “mom” and “dad” mugs, and scattered coffee beans. This personal and warm styling ties their growing family into the everyday details of their business.
Surrogacy letterboard announcement
This understated announcement posted by @brownstonesurrogacy shares the news of a baby on the way through surrogacy, using a letterboard and pregnancy test to mark the moment. The simple setup keeps the focus on the joy of growing a family, offering intended parents an inclusive and meaningful way to announce their news.

Of course, there’s no single “right” time to announce a pregnancy. That said, many women tell people after the 14-week mark, says David Garry, DO, director of maternal fetal medicine at Stony Brook Medicine in New York. “Waiting till 20 weeks, or 4 to 5 months, is also popular,” he adds, explaining that this allows women to make sure the ultrasound findings are normal and confirm the sex of baby. (Though, you don’t need to know baby’s sex to announce your pregnancy!)
Many choose to wait until the first trimester is over because pregnancy loss is more common in the early stages. “Once the pregnancy reaches the end of the first trimester, spontaneous loss becomes much less likely,” explains (Dympna Weil)[https://www.dympnaweil.com/], MD, a board-certified ob-gyn, master coach and author in upstate New York. “That’s where the traditional advice to wait comes from.” She adds that personal history matters too. Parents who’ve experienced a previous loss or who have certain medical conditions may prefer to wait until they feel more secure.
How you share your pregnancy can depend on many factors, including your personality, your relationships and what feels manageable in the moment. Weil notes that she’s seen announcements shared in nearly every way imaginable. “Some people make very public announcements on social media, which lets them tell everyone at once,” she says. “Others prefer phone calls, in-person conversations or small, meaningful gestures.” “What matters most is that the announcement feels right for the parents,” Weil says. “There’s no rulebook—just what feels comfortable and meaningful for you.”
Pregnancy announcements can bring a lot of joy, but they can also stir complicated emotions for others. According to Weil, a little thoughtfulness toward yourself and those around you can go a long way.
Weil advises keeping the following tips in mind:
- Do recognize that this news is yours to share.
- Do try to enjoy this incredibly sacred time as much as you can.
- Don’t feel obligated to share your news publicly. “While our society demands we spill the tea, it’s not required,” she says.
- Don’t take reactions personally. I remember sharing the news of my first child with friends and family on Facebook and a friend of mine didn’t reach out right away. She later shared with me that she was dealing with some personal struggles and my news hit her hard. “Perhaps a friend or family member doesn’t seem to respond or react to your exciting news how you’d like them to,” says Weil. “It’s far more likely that he or she has a personal reason for not reacting how you might expect. Maybe they experienced a loss or are struggling with fertility.”
Whether your baby announcement is whispered, professionally photographed, texted or shared on social media, what matters most is that it feels right to you. The pregnancy announcement ideas here aren’t meant to be rules—just inspiration for finding a way to share your news that feels honest, joyful and entirely your own.
