Mallory Pugh and Dansby Swanson Are Expecting Their First Baby
There’s quite the little athlete on the way!
U.S. Women’s National Team star Mallory Pugh and her husband, Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson, are expecting their first child together. The couple shared the joyful news on May 8 via Instagram, captioning a series of their maternity photos: “Our greatest blessing.” In the announcement, the couple wears matching all-white outfits while standing in a floral-filled space. Pugh holds her ultrasound photos with a radiant smile, while Swanson stands beside her, holding her hand.
The comments section quickly filled with love from fellow athletes and fans alike. “Sooo amazing. Congratulations to you both,” wrote Pugh’s USWNT teammate Carli Lloyd. Marissa Lawrence, wife of NFL quarterback Trevor Lawrence and a mom-to-be herself, added, “Congratulations 🤍 so excited for you guys,” while Cubs pitcher and Swanson’s teammate Jameson Taillon chimed in, “Can’t wait to meet my new best friend!”
Pugh and Swanson tied the knot in a romantic ceremony on December 10, 2022. “My love grows for you every single day & December 10th will always be my favorite day,” Pugh reflected in a heartfelt anniversary post. The couple’s love story began in 2017, when Swanson was introduced to Pugh by former Atlanta Braves teammate Jace Peterson, who also happens to be Pugh’s brother-in-law.
Both parents-to-be bring serious sports credentials to the table. Pugh, a forward for the USWNT and Angel City FC, helped lead the U.S. to a Women’s World Cup victory in 2019—and most recently, she scored the only goal in the team’s 1–0 win over Brazil in the gold medal match at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Swanson, meanwhile, was a key player in the Atlanta Braves’ 2021 World Series win before signing a seven-year deal with the Chicago Cubs in 2022.
With two elite athletes for parents, Baby Swanson is already poised to be a future MVP.
