Julia Stiles Reveals She Secretly Welcomed Her Third Child Last Year
Julia Stiles has been keeping a pretty big secret.
The 10 Things I Hate About You actress revealed she had welcomed another child into the world last year in a recent interview with the New York Times. “I’m kind of like a bundle of emotions, because I have a 5-month-old baby and I went into directing my first movie," she told the outlet, referring to her directorial debut for the film Wish You Were Here.
It’s not much of a surprise that Stiles, who is notoriously private about her personal life, didn’t share her third child’s arrival with social media or the press until now. “I didn’t really talk about it,” she told the New York Times, about her 2023 pregnancy before discussing the parallels between her role as a mother and director.
“I think that actually being a mom is really great training for being a director. You have to think 10 steps ahead but also be in the present moment. You have to be good at time management. You have to be sensitive to people’s needs and guide them, but also hold a boundary," she said. Outside of being a bundle of emotions, the mom of three also relatably confessed to “running on fumes in terms of sleep,” but feeling “more energized than ever.”
The Save the Last Dance actress already shares sons Strummer, 6, and Arlo, 2, with husband Preston Cook. Unlike her youngest, Stiles introduced baby Arlo into the world with an Instagram announcement. “Welcome to the world, Baby Arlo! The newest addition to our family, reminding me how infinite love can be,” she captioned a photo of her newborn’s feet. “Scroll Forward to see how my 4-year-old is taking it,” she added, alongside a photo of Strummer’s artwork creation of a man’s face on the family’s toilet.
Stiles and Cook met in on Stiles’ film Go with Me — for which Cook worked as a camera assistant. The couple got engaged on Christmas Eve 2015 and announced in 2017 that they were expecting and would be having a “shotgun wedding.” Nearly one month after their wedding, the couple welcomed their first baby together, son Strummer.
