Former competitive figure skater and current sports broadcaster Tara Lipinski’s dreams have finally come true!

The new mom shared that she had offically welcomed her first child via surrogate on October 25. “We are so grateful that we get to make this announcement that our baby girl is here,” she wrote in a Instagram post marking her daughter’s arrival.

“It feels so surreal and I’m experiencing a feeling of happiness that I have never felt before. This little embryo that Todd and I made together has come to life! We are so grateful and forever thankful for our surrogate. Mikayla, thank you for carrying her safely into our arms.”

“I dreamt about this for so long,” she told People. “A crying baby, sleepless nights. Even when I’m like, ‘Okay, take an hour nap,’ I’m almost too excited. I’m like, 'She’s there. Just watch her a little longer. It’s the best tired I’ve ever been.”

Lipinski and husband Todd Kapostasy can’t help but to smile from ear to ear at a miracle they never thought they’d see. The figure skating legend intially thought getting pregnant would be easy, but she quickly realized it would be anything but. In her hit podcast Tara Lipinski: Unexpecting, she offers a candid look at her difficult infertility journey of four years, including four miscarriages and many failed rounds of IVF.

In episode 13 of the podcast released on October 6, Lipinski shared that she and Kapostasy, were officially expecting via surrogate.

“It was just so surreal. It couldn’t have been happening to us like we don’t get this news, this doesn’t happen to us. I almost didn’t believe it,” Lipinski said on her podcast. “I was just sobbing. But like, that ugly sobbing of just years of all of this trauma pouring out of my eyes.”

“I don’t know how to describe it other than pure relief,” she shared when asked how she felt learning the exciting news. “Obviously, happiness and thinking that maybe our lives are going to finally change and we’re not going to be in the same, awful hamster wheel anymore.”

After several unsuccessful heartbeat scans in the past, Lipinski was understandably nervous to hear the news and developed a special plan with her surrogate, Mikayla. “The plan was that she was not going to FaceTime me or call me before there was an actual heartbeat because there was just no way that my heart could have taken it,” Lipinksi said in her podcast. “I didn’t want to be on the phone while she was preparing or getting in the room or I’m seeing the initial part of the scan. Like I didn’t care. I didn’t want to know about that. I just wanted to know if there was a heartbeat.”

“So what I told her to do is if there’s a heartbeat to FaceTime me. And if there is no heartbeat to just please call us,” Lipinksi explained before revealing that she received a FaceTime during which Lipinski broke down into tears, her husband did victory laps around the kitchen.

“It felt like the sun was finally setting on our horrific fertility journey,” Kapostasy said.
