Free Solo's Alex Honnold and Sanni McCandless Welcome Baby Girl

Free Solo star Alex Honnold is now a girl dad times two!

The famous rock climber and his wife, Sanni McCandless, welcomed their daughter Alice Summer Hannold on Tuesday, February 4 at 9:25 p.m., weighing 6 lbs., 6 oz. and measuring 19 inches long. Alice, who carries Hannold’s grandmother’s name, was born in Las Vegas, Nevada.

McCandless who shared a pregnancy update on Instagram just three weeks ago, was initially told that her due date would correspond with her oldest daughter, June’s second birthday. But baby Alice had other plans. “When I got to the hospital there were some complications and my doctor recommended a c-section. We headed straight there and everything went well after that,” McCandless shared with People, adding, “After a fairly traumatic first birth with June, Alice’s birth was a huge relief. We were home 2 days later!"

Honnold and McCandless initially shared the news of baby number two in January. “Happy New Year!! I’ve been meaning to post something for the New Year - this seems like the most important thing.@sannimccandless and I will be welcoming a new daughter into the family next month, which I’m sure will dominate our attention for 2024,” the American rock climber captioned a photo of McCandless standing atop a mountain with her bump on full display.

“Our first daughter has been steadily growing up and becoming more of her own person. Right as it starts to feel more manageable and, dare I say, easier, we’re starting over from the beginning. But we’re all excited to add a little sister to the mix,” he added.

In constant pursuit of a new adventure and new climb, Honnold and McCandless are excited to hit the road with their new family of four. "We have a few big trips planned for our new family of four — all with changeable tickets and refundable Airbnbs, just in case! To be honest, I’m not sure if our expectations are too high for what is possible with two kids, but we are going to try our best!”
